2014 ONE QUEENS GRANT WINNERS

The Corona Youth Music Project, or Núcleo Corona, is a music education program that promotes social inclusion in New York City by providing tuition-free instruction and opportunities for youth and children in Corona, Queens. It strives to empower children and youth to excel through their participation in collective music learning and performance.

The Rockaway Youth Task Force hosts a weekly youth-run farmers' market where they sell fresh and organic produce from local farms. In addition to providing an opportunity for residents to purchase low-cost fruits and vegetables to which they might not have access, the project's goal is to educate the youth working on this project about healthy eating and living.

Rockaway Waterfront Alliance's Shore Corps Green Internship Project is a year-round service learning leadership and college prep program that engages high school students in environmental stewardship; introduces them to careers in STEM, environmental science, urban planning and environmental advocacy.

Indo-Caribbean Alliance’s Empowering & Envisioing with a Paintbrush mural project will empower youth as they explore the identity conflict they experience and how it is reflected in their community. This project serves as an empty canvas for youth to initiate and lead this community building service project. It is also an opportunity to bring the community together to create an art piece that reflects the heritage and cultural heritage of this community.

Vets Inc.'s mission is to provide food, clothing, housing and supportive services to formerly displaced veterans and the community-at-large. The Within and Beyond project will expand our services to provide community service projects to our youth vis-á-vis our food pantry, soup kitchen, summer Farmer's market and our STEP program.
